From August 16th to 18th 2021 the first retreat of the Georg H. Endress Postdoc cluster took place with a total of 18 participants in the Valbella Inn Resort Lenzerheide, located in a beautiful mountain environment in the canton Graubünden in Switzerland. After a short introduction of the Basel and Freiburg group leaders, the (alumni, present and future) GHE Fellows presented their results in the form of 45min scientific presentations (Click on title to read more).

The good atmosphere, together with the face to face nature of the seminars triggered many interesting questions and stimulating discussions. In addition to the scientific part of the meeting there were also social events – a hike and a conference dinner – where PIs and GHE fellows from Freiburg and Basel could get to know each other in person:

Hike: Scharmoin –  Papaner Rothorn

On Tuesday afternoon we started our hike from Scharmoin – the middle station at 1905m altitude of the Rothorn cablecar – in direction of the peak of the Papaner Rothorn at 2899m altitude. After an initial slight ascent trough the Scharmoin alp a more challenging steep path led us up to the Papaner Rothorn where we regained strength with a lunch before making the final ascent to the mountain peak.

Conference dinner 

After the ordeal of the afternoon hike we were spoiled with a delicious several course conference dinner on Tuesday evening at our conference location, the Valbella resort.
